This work continues my experiments in improvisation, ephemerality (the unspectacular) and poetics.
Bio:
Laiwan is an artist, writer and educator interested in poetics, improvisation and philosophy. Born in Zimbabwe of Chinese parents, she immigrated to Canada in 1977 to leave the war in Rhodesia. She started the OR Gallery in Vancouver in 1983 and initiated the First Vancouver Lesbian Film Festival in 1988. Recipient of the 2008 Vancouver Queer Media Artist Award, Laiwan exhibits and is published locally and nationally, has curated projects in Canada and Zimbabwe, and participates in gay, feminist and cultural organizing. Laiwan teaches in the MFA Interdisciplinary Arts Program at Goddard College, WA. Whe is based in Vancouver, Canada. (http://laiwanette.net)
