This work is dedicated to the late and controversial poet Gerry Gilbert whose trademark was a slug. Gilbert died in June 2009 in Vancouver.
Bio:
Eric Metcalfe is a well-known, Vancouver-based artist. One of the founding members of the Western Front, Metcalfe has maintained an active and diverse practice since completing his studies at the University of Victoria in 1965. Over the course of his distinguished career, Metcalfe has earned several noteable honours, including the V.I.V.A. Award (1993), the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award (2000), The Audain Award (2006) and the Governor General’s Award (2008). The artist is represented in major galleries across Canada, the US, and Europe.
